The slow cooling system, through the combination of the gantry crane, the sprinkler gantry crane and the circulating water cooling system, reduces the occupied area for slag slow cooling, and has high efficiency, good effect and low energy consumption for slag slow cooling. Meanwhile, the present invention also provides a slow cooling method. This slow cooling method improves the cooling effect and the hardness of the cooled slag is low by adopting the above-mentioned slow cooling system for high-intensity intermittent spraying.
